Project Atelier

Project Atelier is an assignment in year 2 of the AMFI.Here, we learn to create shapes on the body from an experimentation phase and get a final design from this. I worked with the pattern parts of a dress. I used the front and back part and started experimenting with the shapes. In the end, I ended up placing the panels on half of an existing dress. I deliberately chose to do this on half, to create a contrast. It was several layers, which created a new shape on half off the dress. It gave me an interesting effect and so I continued to work it out even more finely. You can see the final result as in the photos, done entirely in white. But besides being tasked with executing this in a white version, we also had to make a coloured version with a print we developed ourselves. You also had to develop the colour yourself naturally. My blue colour was developed by extracting the dye from red cabbage and then adding iron sulphate in this bath and then soaking in this mixture. This gave me a drab blue colour. Then I started developing a stamp that allowed me to stamp a print on the dress with textile dye. The process and final result can be seen further in the photos and videos.
