Craft work

Craft work is very extensive and you have a lot of different techniques you can work with in this direction. For instance, you have Richelieu, Boutis, Laid work and Smock. I mainly did a lot of experimenting what were random applications. Later, I started looking into Boutis. Boutis is a technique where you stuff fabric. You work with two layers of fabric and fill them in between. You can play and variate a lot with this. I chose to work with a gauze fabric for the inside and on the outside I used the fabric in which I wanted to show the bolting effect. The gauze fabric is much chunkier and wider than the basic gauze fabric you can work with at Boutis, so this is a variation of mine. Furthermore, I also kept the stuffing thread very coarse and thick. Lastly, you usually work with a hand stitch for a sophisticated effect in Boutis. In this case, I used the sewing machine to stitch lines that formed a pattern. And in between the lines I filled it up to form a kind of print with the Boutis technique.
